Stringtown, Ind - Virgil Emerson Allen, 64, a life resident of Wabash Township, Fountain County, died at 12:45 a.m today (Aug 11, 1967) at his home in Stringtown (Covington Rt 1). He had been in ill health but death was unexpected. He was born Oct 6, 1902, in Wabash Township. His parents were Frank E. and Clara Richardson Allen. He married Juanita Sowers May 5, 1928 she survives. Also surviving are two sons, Ronnell of Ft. Wayne and Gordon of Kingman Rt 2; three brothers, Lawrence and Melben of Covington and Lewis of Covington Rt 3; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kelley of Covington Rt 1 and Mrs. Mildred Summers of Covington Rt 3; and 9 grandchldren. Mr. Allen was employed at Harrison Steel casting Co in Attica for 24 years. He retired in August 1966, as an inspector. He had worked earlier as a coal miner and construction worker. He was a member of Cooper's Chapel Evanelical United Brethren Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in Covington with Rev. Nelson Vance and Rev. John Meyer officiating. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 tonight and Saturday afternoon and evening.

Covington - Virgil Emerson Allen, age 64, a life resident of Wabash Township, Fountain County, died at 12:45 a.m. Friday, Aug 11 at his home in Strongtown, Covington Rt 1. He had been in ill health but his death was unexpected at this time. Mr. Allen was born Oct 6, 1902, in Wabash Township, son of Frank E. and Clara Richardson Allen. He married May 5, 1928 Juanita Sowers who survives. He was employed at Harrison Steel in Attica for 24 years. He retired in August 1956 as an inspector. He had worked earlier as a coal miner and construction worker. He was a member of the Cooper Chapel Evangelical United Brethren Church. Surviving, in addition to the wife are two sons, Ronnell of Ft. Wayne and Gordon of Kingman Rt 2; three brothers, Lawrence, Melben & Lewis of Covington; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kelly and Mrs. Mildred Summers, Covington RR and 9 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Bodine & SHelby Funeral Home in Covington, Rev. Nelson Vance & Rev. John Meyer officiated. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery here.
